Our stud finders sense density, and since metal is more dense than wood, the reading will tend to be more accurate on metal studs. Thank you for your inquiry. Best regards, The Franklin Sensors Team **Q: Will this work through tile. Need to install grab-bar in shower.** A: Yes. I was able to find studs thru tile. I might add that I have had many stud finders over the years and some more expensive than this one and this has been the best. **Q: Can this detect electrical wires?** A: No. This model does not detect electrical wiring. I don't think Franklin has a model for detecting electrical current. However it is the best I have found that can detect wall studs accurately. **Q: Does it work thru plaster/wood lathe?** A: I can only tell you that it worked through dry wall and It did recognize the wood studs around a door. And it worked exactly as described. I suspect that it will work through plaster, but I have no plaster in my house.
