When fresh, they are more like a cross between a pear and an apple.I've noticed some negative reviews, but many seem to be from people who hadn't had freeze-dried asian pears before and didn't like them. If you like freeze-dried asian pears, then you'll like these. They are light and sweet like you'd expect, but they are also perfectly dried and sealed (so they stay crunchy), unblemished and without skins, seeds or cores - pretty much perfect for freeze-dried asian pears.Some reviews also mention crushing, which sounds like it could happen as these are very delicate, but Amazon always packs mine well and they come in fairly large pieces for me. Another mentioned that there isn't much in a bag. That's true, but when you freeze dry fruit, you are removing most of the weight and size. It's something you should expect when getting freeze-dried fruit.
