The 500 sounds are wonderful and it works with my DAW. When I enable midi input from my software and PC on (on my keyboard) I can enter notes or even record in real time by hooking my keyboard to my computer with a USB. I purchased the USB in town and found out that a USB for a printer is the right USB. My batteries lasted only 4 days so don't forget to buy the ac adaptor! I purchased the Yamaha PA 130 MM (ac adaptor). The keyboard records user songs to a .bup file which is a backup file. I got this keyboard to compose my music and the sounds are great. You have the pitch wheel for bending notes and you can alter the reverb, play dual notes, or even split the keys! It has a chord dictionary and hypnotic arps! You are only limited by your imagination. :) Review: Nice Sound Quality - Light Weight - This was a gift for my wife. We didn't want to spend the money or donate the living space to a piano just yet. I got the stand with it as well, and she seems to like the unit. It's incredibly light, to the point of feeling cheapie, but we have had it for over a year with no problems. This feature makes it easy to have out in the middle of the house, but stash easily/quickly when we are having people over. I am not a professional musician. I play for my own amusement. I gave the keyboard 3 stars because the sounds are really good and it makes some attempt to teach. Need a magnifying glass at my age to see the LCD display :-) Two things that are lacking compared to my older keyboard: 1) The intro/ending key is one event. So you can only use the intro as an intro. After you start playing, if you hit the intro key it obviously invokes the ending and the song stops. On my older keyboard the functions were split so if you pressed the Intro during song play, it created a nice frill and break to lead into something else. 2) The auto fill is also now one key with the style variations from A/B. This means while playing a style or song, when you hit the auto fill it moves the style variation from A to B or vice versa and you get the drum roll. Nothing wrong with that, but it would be much nicer to have a separate FILL key if one wants to stay within a variation and just have a fill without switching. Hope I explained it properly. To me this is a huge disappointment. I read the entire manual and could not find a solution I guess this is one of the problems buying an item like this online. My local music store did not have model for me to preview.
