They protect from heat and give a good grip to heavy pans. I got some new pans to try sheet pan cooking at high temps. Most use a 400-425 degree oven. I had some heavy cotton oven mitts but the first time I tried to remove the hot sheet pan from the oven I could feel the heat seeping through. The heat does not seep through the pads and mitts. I love the color too. The size is good too. The pads are large enough to grip pot handles easily and the oven mitts are long enough to protect my arms when reaching into a hot oven. The grip is great for flat surfaces but using finger tips like opening the oven door is a little hard.
