I was aware that it is not as tall as most lamps used on end tables. I really like the lamp. I think it looks good on the end table. I was happily surprised when I opened. It was well packaged/protected. The lamp is heavy (good quality) and the shade is glass. I feel the quality of the lamp is good. I would recommend the lamp and would purchase it again.UPDATED REVIEW 9/22/2018: We have owned this lamp for about 16 months. I have been very happy with it - until today. It just broke. The lamp is metal and glass but what I just discovered is that the piece that holds the lightbulb also holds the heavy glass shade. The plastic piece is screwed into the top of the lamp, comes down through the glass shade, and holds the bulb and glass shade. That plastic piece just broke up at the top where it is screwed into the top of the lamp. I imagine that this piece is not replaceable easily since the wiring goes into the top of it. I will contact the manufacturer if possible for a replacement.
