I would suggest that would not be a practical use and use an inexpensive air gauge. In a real pinch sure you could use it. **Q: How do you put the valve stem back in? Is it all done with deflator?** A: 1) Screw the deflator on your stem. 2)Push the top of the brass knob down and twist counter-clockwise (you will feel it catch) until the air flows and the know pushes out. 3) Pull the widest part of the brass away from the valve and let the air flow! 4) Push the widest part of the brass towards the valve to check pressure periodically. 5) Once desired pressure is reached reverse appropriate steps above. FYI. Store this item with the hose as straight as possible. If stored in the provided pouch the hose will become compromised and leak over time. I found a spring to install over the end towards the gauge to assist in this. **Q: Does this allow you to set a PSI and walk away, or do you have to watch it while it deflates?** A: Hello Anthony this is a manual process, you have to actually watch the dial to make sure it reaches the desire PSIthank you **Q: Is it recommended to unscrew the cores out, does this cause premaure wear on the cores?** A: Simply put no. The cores are threaded like anything else.
