I checked all the connections and when I unplugged and replugged in the power converter they came on for a minute or two but then went out again. I changed the battery in the controller, but that didn't work either. Pretty disappointing. But...it turns out that I had a bad GFCI outlet that caused the problem. Once the outlet was replaced the lights worked fine. Daybetter, to their credit, has great customer service and sent me a replacement at no charge (which I will now offer to pay for.)
