From the reviews of the film, it seems a lot of people are having trouble understanding the plot because the dialogue is drowned under the soundtrack. Nolan's desire to focus more on sensory experiences than storytelling shows in the screenplay as dialogue is surprisingly minimal for such a complex concept. Characters are thin and seem to exist only to forward the plot and let you wrap your mind around its pseudo-science lesson. That said, it's a cool story with some good twists.
