The brim is firm but not hard enough to hurt if bumped, the chin strap is adjustable and is a clip so in the event of it getting caught this would break and not strangle your child, there is elastic in the back for fit but also a strap for adjustment. My boys can swim in these and they hold their shape...even when they jump in and out of the pool. They dry super fast (think board shorts material).For sizing...my 13 month old has a big head (99th percentile for age) and a small fits him perfectly (see photo); my 3 year old has an above average head (67th percentile for age) and the medium fits him perfectly. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Would be awesome if he would wear it.
