It is a very good thickness size (1.5 mm), a little smaller than the thickness of a half dollar. It arrived with a slight odor, but as per the instructions the odor goes away. I didn't end up using the product's suggestions for flattening the mat. I instead chose to use double sided sticky tape dots to adhere it to the table so that it would be secured even when the table was folded down. I am not sure how heat resistant it is as nothing would ever be placed on it that was so hot that it could burn my son.
