Imagine a large bolt that was dropped from a few stories up hits you. The bolt veered off the left side of a person's hat and the full brim deflected the bolt off to the left side of the person. It was not a small bolt! The impact was so little it was described as if a ping pong ball hit the hat. But the concrete had a chunk taken out of it. This bolt would have gone into the top of the shoulder or the person's head if not for that hard hat. This is a very old story but very true and explains why hat hats with a full brim are needed. No one was in the work area above where this bolt fell from, and the bottom area was not cautioned off. If you listen to some of the stories of those hit with anything and those that died. The Full brim usually deflects many items that would have been detrimental. And there is usually never much harm done to them if any. Not just a hard hat but use a full brim. It also drips any water or snow from all the way around you.
