I bought my 1TB T7 as a external boot up drive for a Mac Mini with a failing hard drive. It took a long time to copy everything from the hard drive and ran very hot. I tested the speed early on and then after fully setting up as the boot drive. The read speed is fine but the write speed has reduced from over 300Mb/s to about 50 (using a standard USB-3). In spite of that my Mac is working infinitely better than it was. You will find useful advice on forums like MacRumors, where views are split as to whether the slow write speed matters or not.
