Cobalt can come from ceramic glaze, but these are inexpensive, though nice, dishes, and not ceramic so I would say no to both. **Q: Is this set coming back in stock?** A: Walmart has it also. **Q: Do these scratch easy?** A: They are not as hardy as Corelle dishes, but they are not as fragile as china.
