It really adds something to it, as the base black is kind of a grayish (in my opinion) not very exciting one. Very easy to install and haven’t broken or caused any issue. They do sit very slightly up from the actual controller stem, id say about a millimetre or two, but it really isn’t noticeable unless you actively try feel it.
