I used it to clamp corners for a pine box 2'x4' with 3/4" thickness. However - and this is important - these clamps are not designed for that kind of weight. They are designed for picture frames or any box that is lightweight. **Q: Are these capable of clamping two different thickness pieces together in the same corner? Like a 3/4" thick drawer front and 1/2" drawer sides?** A: I wouldn't try it. The right angles are fixed so it can't adjust to different thicknesses. They are only good for picture frames. **Q: will these clamps work on 1x4** A: They will work on the 1 inch side but not the 4 inch side. **Q: Could shims be used to decrease min. thickness to 3/32" (or less) to glue chipboard boxes together accurately?** A: If I understand your question correctly, the range is from 7/16 to 3/4 inch thickness. The design makes them easy to use. The spring is sturdy and the clamp keeps my small projects at a pretty good 90. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good corner clamps for small DIY projects *by R***T on December 16, 2022* The clamp holds the joint nice and snug, and it does a good job of holding the materials flush on the bottom side. Using this I was able to make good 90° corners. Be aware when using 3/4 inch thick material that it will be a VERY tight fit. The first few attempts I made to get this clamp over two 3/4 inch plywood boards caused some minor damage to the edges of my boards. The spring is really tight at first when you pull it wide enough to get the 3/4 inch board into the clamp. After a few uses, the spring relaxed a little, and I figured out a trick to hold the orange corner aside, making it easier to open enough to get the 3/4 inch board into the clamp without damage. It may be best to start using these clamps on thinner materials or to use it on some scrap wood to practice using it and give it time to loosen the spring before using on 3/4 inch wood.
