I appreciate the real airlock created with the water in the canister, compared to the simple silicone valve style. So far I have made my own pineapple tepache, vinegar, saurkraut, and several kimchi variations. I even fermented the unripe tomatoes, onion tops, and broccoli leaves from my garden that would have gone to waste. These help me save money and eat healthy!

They seem sturdy butI need to fiddle with the air locks a bit as they seem wobbly at the silicone gaskets. No mold has developed, though, just the Kahm yeast and a "mother, right on cue." I also plan to use these regularly for small batch sauerkraut and in half gallon wide mouth canning jars rather than carboys for wine with some of this year's elderberries and grapes.

**Q: can fruit flies get inside? this is a big problem in my kitchen right now**
A: No they cant also buy a indoor bug zapper from Amazon and you will have no more fruit flies or any other.

**Q: What do they mean by add half of water to the airlock?  do they mean fill it up halfway with water?**
A: Save yourself the time and don't buy these. They don't seal properly.

**Q: Can these be used to further ferment commercially bought fermented foods by replacing the lid?**
A: Yes, you can continue to ferment commercially bought fermented foods, if the food has not been pasteurized.  It may say “live active cultures” on the food label.

**Q: Are the airlocks & lids dishwasher safe?**
A: Yes, I put mine in the very top rack in my dishwasher, I have the 3rd rack so small items stay contained

I’m new to fermenting pickles, but found that the water lock was the best at keeping out oxygen. These were easy to set up and use. My counter looked like a science experiment, but it was also fun to see the gasses make the float rise and fall as they released. I would buy it again.
