At times, it reads more like a secular romance novel. To some, she may have crossed a few lines in regards to passion and one specific scene of violence. Yet, the story is so compelling you are involved before you can resist. I liked the setting of this story, which she realistically painted with her words. Her characters were well-drawn and her plot pacing kept me turning pages. I highly recommend this award winner, though it's not for everyone. If you enjoy edgy Christian fiction, this one's for you. Jamie is a fresh voice in Christian fiction whose original prose will delight readers. Prospecting for gold in Alaska was an absolutely perilous, ultra-rigorous venture, and the author chronicles it well. The story line of a mistreated orphan who grows up in an atmosphere of "gold fever," and a godly Alaskan young man who discovers this "snow angel" half frozen on the porch of his cabin is one worthy of your time. What a great, entertaining way to learn history! There was history about the gold rush in Alaska that was interesting. There was a Christian element to this book but very little preaching and more about how the character listened to God and some prayers. The characters didn't pull me in like I like, but I found the story enjoyable and it moved very well. It was not predictable and had me wondering where it was going to go.
