But no one answered... Help us someone!** A: Yes, both gold and silver but sometimes it detects aluminum and tin as silver. Not a bad detector for beginers. **Q: Is this detector too heavy for a 9 year old?** A: Probably, I'm 5'2" and out of shape and it's very tiring on my arm after a while. **Q: What battertes work? Many do not fit!** A: I tried EverReady Max 9V. This is a decent, functional, and inexpensive unit that served my needs. There are better, more feature rich options available, but they do cost considerably more.
