Real solid copper and real glass. Simple well made construction. Unlike the other reviewer, I understood that these were "half can" design for surface mounting to a post or other flat surface.Simple two-piece construction. The backing plate/bulb socket mounts to the post. And the "half can" lantern unit slides up for removal (to replace bulb) and slides down to reinstall. No screws to remove to slide it off/on.I mounted mine on large gate posts (railroad ties) at the end of my driveway. Therefore I ran the wiring on the surface of the posts. I cut a small opening (with tin snips) on the base to run the wires from the bottom of the base, as the instructions recommend running the wires in channels cut in the post or between the post and post sleeve. Since my lights were on gate posts I just had the wires come out the bottom and then ran them to the side of the posts.The primary reason I gave these 4 stars instead of 5 is because one of the bulbs had a broken filament and didn't work. It will mount to the surface of a post not to the top.
