After discussing it with our vet, we didn't want to use Bute for several reasons, but we wanted to give her some pain relief and control/prevent excess inflammation in the joint. We're doing four days on and two days off with the aspirin to ward off gastric ulcer problems - maybe overly cautious, but this is an injury that will take weeks to fully heal, so she's going to need the aspirin for awhile. It smells like molasses and mixes very easily with her pelleted feed, though there is a bit of powder in the bottom of the feed pan. If you use a sweet feed, this might not be an issue. Apparently this Aniprin tastes ok because she's licking the powder residue out of the pan and eating her meals with no hesitation. We'll keep using it.
