Dave **Q: If it's only one rack, how does it work for cars with no side rails?** A: Easy. The horizontal cross bar is locked in to the base pieces (by you) with adjustable allen-wrench bolts. That gives you a fixed piece even before you place it on the car. So, when the (also adjustable) base pieces are placed on the car with the already fastened cross bar, and then tightened on to the door jamb, the end result is a fixed rack that has been tightened onto the body of the car. It works great, although it's not a bad idea to take your allen wrench with you and check for tightness every now and then. After carrying for 1200 miles with two kayaks on top, I noticed that one of the base pieces had slid forward (metal probably expanded a bit on our trip to a warmer climate), so I just tightened the base. No sweat! **Q: is this prive for one rack or two?** A: Two cross bars and brackets. I wasn't too impressed with the rack so I returned it and got a Thule. Custom fit is the way to go. **Q: There's a list of sizes, SR001, 002, 003, etc, and no explanation. Anyone have any idea?** A: Thanks for checking with Sportrack. They are different lengths and clip designs for various types of aerodynamic cars.
