You need to observe the opposite piece, to see which end needs to be 'up' (which is the FAT end). Don't be in a rush, as you might break it, putting in back in. Just apply firm pressure, in the middle of the piece (so that both sides of the piece are receiving equal pressure), and press it back in. I have seen some commentary, stating that the clamp 'broke', when they attempted to attach a backdrop. I believe it was this piece coming off, for which they were talking about. Not a world shattering event, and easily fixable. UPDATE Ok full story, got tired of those pieces of the clamp popping off. Any suggestions?** A: You could put some VELCRO onto it, the type that has the rough surface, which would normally have a grated surface. One piece, attached to each side of the clamp, would lessen the space between the sides coming together, giving you more gripping power. You could also do the same with anything that has a strong adhesive back. The problem is that the clamp, when put on the bar, is not fully closed, and gaps open. You sound like you need your clamp to be closed more when it is on the bar, so that it has that extra gripping capability. You need to 'help' the clamp reduce the gaping opening it has, when it is attached to the bar. Of course you could also cut some material to size, and super glue it on to the clamp tips also. **Q: how much weight can this hold?** A: I use a 8.5 backdrop on mind and it holds just fine. **Q: Mine came without the clips, seller sucks. Where can I get the clips?** A: That sucks you didn't get the clips. I bet you can go to your local hardware or Walmart type store and just buy some clamps/clips. I had to buy the green screen separate but grand total was closer to $32-$34.
