Yes - they are fragile. They break easily. One drop and I am telling you, it is done. I've had kids accidentally hit it with their backpacks. I've had it stored in a locker for a few months and then not function at all. I've had the volume break. I've had the numbers fade off the screen and not come back. I cannot tell you how many I've had.But I continue to reorder it because it is the best timer out there. Big. Bright. Able to be seen and heard by any student in the room. Multiple functions.However the newer ones I have received do not have the warning bell the older models have. It is truly a shame. Students LOVE the warning bell. It is instrumental to pacing.I will order another one for next year because the time is fading on my last one. I will continue to reorder despite the high price. I had one when I began teaching but it was lost in my classroom when Hurricane Harvey flooded our whole school. I purchased myself a new one because I really enjoy all of it's features. You can use it to randomly group or select students, it displays the date and time, and you are able to also turn on a backlight. I also like to use it as a timer or for countdowns! I only wish that it came with a charger to keep it charged, but I know one can be purchased separately or you can use batteries.
