Instead of paying $35 for a carbon filter for an air purifier or HVAC, this works as an alternative.The carbon material looks well made and does not shake loose carbon flakes. The size is handy for making several ordinary household filters, e.g. an air purifier, car cabin filter, range hood filter, HVAC filter.The folded section of filter comes in a convenient ziploc bag for storage, and with a couple Velcro strips for attachment.At 1/4" inch thick this seems to fit nicely in a filter frame. If greater thickness is needed, cut two pieces and stack them on one another.For example, behind a HEPA filter in an air purifier, it fits right into the frame when cut to size or even behind the old one so you have two layers of carbon filtration, the old filter is mostly ineffective for odor but still filters some particulates. The new one filters out odors.The cool clean smell this leaves is noticeable. It works great for both. It comes as a single large sheet and I cut it down to fit each air cleaner. It cuts easily with a pair of regular scissors.The quality is very good - it works just as well as the original equipment filters but at a small fraction of the cost. And I mean small fraction - this entire sheet costs about the same as a single brand name filter for my air cleaners, but I have enough to make about 20+ replacements.The material is about 1/4 inch thick and comes folded in a zip-lock plastic bag for storage. The 16" width was the perfect size so I only had to make one cut. The material looked about the same as originals that came with unit. Indeed one of the reasons for buying the 5300 was because it has extra space for additional filters to be added. Professional reviewers have found that with additional filter the 5300 is superior in air filtration to many machines costing two or three times as much. The product is easy to cut with scissors and fits easily into my machine. I don't understand why people complain about this product and price of filter combo for the 5300. Personally I do not mind paying $50 for combination of a hepa filter and 4 carbon filters. I then add this product as additional filter so I have two carbon filters and a heap filter. So for about $60 I have enough filters to last about one year. Thats assuming changing carbon filters every three months. All in all it seems like a bargain for clean filtered air for my asthmatic wife.
