I like the way it's organized systematically with most practical/ common phrases learned first. Though the book is easy enough for kids to understand on their own, I wouldn't say this is a book to buy for a child to self-study. It works well for us bc as the teacher, I go through each portion and I ask the questions and give the examples, then we do it together, but the 'activities' in this book are NOT exciting or really engaging at all. That would have to be extra on the parent's part. I would even say this book would be IDEAL for adults who have absolutely no experience with Spanish but want to learn. Everything is broken down into basics nicely but the content itself is not childish, meaning you're really learning all the pieces of the language both grammatically and conversationally, including the necessary vocab. The only downside to that is there is no audio portion, unless they offer something on their website. I had tried using my college text to teach my kids, but they were bored by the adult format--dialogues and nothing fun. This book has some fun. But not much. It seems to me that this book is really lacking in activities. There's no way a kid is going to learn to learn 27 parts of the body after just one workbook page that only has 5 blanks to fill in, and one suggested activity (drawing a picture and labeling the parts). This book mostly has lists of words in English and then Spanish, as well as helpful hints: "There is no English V sound in Spanish."
