## Description

Harness the power of IronWolf Pro HDDs, built with NAS-optimized AgileArray firmware for exceptional RAID reliability and NAS compatibility during the heaviest of workloads. Built-in rotational vibration sensors provide consistent performance and reliable storage for NAS—with little lag or down time—while easily tackling heavy workloads in multi-user NAS environments. Built tough and always ready with a 300TB/year workload rate, 24x7 accessibility to store and protect crucial data, and a five-year limited warranty that includes three years of Rescue Data Recovery Services.

Review: Four of these in a 4-bay Synology RAID 5, 24/7, healthy and worth the upgrade from 4TB - I run four of these in a four-bay Synology in RAID 5, with a Samsung NVMe as read cache. The array is on 24/7 with no spin-down, handling a Plex media server, backups, and surveillance recording. That is a genuinely constant workload, not a drive that idles most of the day. These replaced the 4TB IronWolf Pros I had been running. The jump in capacity was the reason, but they are also noticeably faster, and I would buy them again without hesitating. All four report Healthy with no errors. Temperatures are worth knowing about if you are filling a four-bay enclosure: mine sit between 47 and 49°C under normal operation. That is inside Seagate's rated range and I have had no thermal issues, but if you are packing four 7200 RPM drives into a compact NAS, expect them to run warm rather than cool. Airflow in your enclosure matters more than it would with one or two drives. On noise: these are audible. When the platters are working I can clearly hear them from my desk about eight feet away. It is not a whine or a grinding sound, just the normal seek noise of enterprise-class 7200 RPM drives, but do not expect a silent NAS. If your unit lives in a bedroom or a quiet office, put it in a closet or accept the background noise. This is the single thing most listings will not tell you and the thing most likely to surprise a first-time NAS builder. For a RAID array that runs continuously, these have done exactly what I needed.
Review: IronWolf drives are the best NAS drives I've used - UPDATE: This week I finally has my first IronWolf Pro drive fail. By chance it was the newest drive I put in my server. It was also my largest drive (16 tb). There were unrepairable corrupted sectors (according to seagate tools). I contacted seagate and I was walked through the process of returning the drive and having the data recovered. They were not difficult to deal with. I'm leaving my review at 5 stars. I have however ordered another 16tb drive as a quick replacement to the one that died (desertcart will get that drive here at least a week before seagate would get a replacement here). If that drive dies prematurely and or the 16tb replacement seagate sends me back dies again then I will start removing stars with the caveat that, maybe the quality control or tech associated with drives larger than 14tb, arent ready for the masses. I've been running 5 other 14tb ironwolf pro drives 24/7 for many many months longer than the 16tb drive and they're all quick, silent and uncorrupted. Original: I have 3 of these 14tb IronWolf Pros. Ive bought 10 of the 8tb IronWolf (regulars). I currently only have 5 of the 8th drives installed and running. I havent had a single issue with any of the drives. Some of my drives are 4 years old. Some are 8 months. They all run 24/7 with a 60 second reboot, once or twice a week. Anyways I began buying these 14tb drives a year and a half to two years ago. They are more expensive dollar for dollar (by tb) than the 8tb drives but when you have a ton of data and your running out of sata ports on your motherboard or internal hdd slots in your tower these are the way to go. As I said before they are reliable. Not a single DOA drive and not a single breakdown. I get on average about 170 mbs drive transfer rates. Fast, quiet and reliable, cant ask for much more. Before I got iron wolfs I bought some other seagate drives (not NAS). TOTAL GARBAGE. Seagate almost lost me as a customer there, but I gave ironwolf a chance and I'm glad I did.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I purchased (2) 12-tb: anyone knows why i get 10.91-tb for each? why are we short?**
A: Hard drive manufacturers use base 10 for size. So 1 TB = 10**12 bytes. Your system uses base 2 for counting, so 1 TiB = 2**40 bytes. A base 2 TiB is larger than a base 10 TB. The actual name for a base 2 terabyte is a tebibyte, or TiB. A base 10 TB is TB or terabyte.

**Q: Can this be used as a normal hdd storage drive for a desktop pc?**
A: Quick answer YES
The more complete answer starts with 'WHY'?

First, NAS rated disks are typically more expensive than desktop drives. They are built for different use expectations.
One of the answers mentioned always leaving the system powered on. Most NAS setups are powered on and left on. They do not power cycle (and more importantly heat cycle) with any regularity. As such, the drives are built to operate in that environment.
Another answer mentioned RPMs and many NAS drives spin at 5400/5900 RPMs. This means that the place on the platter where you file is stored takes longer to rotate around than it would on a typical desktop drive of 7200 RPM.
Another answer mentioned vibration. The desktop is less vibration isolated (typically) than a NAS setup.

Shop a 7200 (or faster) RPM disk or consider NVMe or SSD is the budget allows. You will not only likely save money initially but will have better performance in the longer term.

**Q: Is this drive smr if so i don't want it!**
A: At least the IronWolf Pro drives are all CMR (=PMR), and not SMR. I think some of the smaller capacity non-Pro drives used to be SMR, but I think now even they are all CMR.

**Q: Does this drive come with sata cable?**
A: No it's a bare drive no screws no cables.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Unparalleled Performance and Reliability for NAS Enthusiasts!
*by B***S on October 1, 2023*

The Seagate IronWolf Pro 10TB NAS Internal Hard Drive is an absolute game-changer for anyone serious about their Network Attached Storage (NAS) setup. After several months of rigorous use, I can confidently say this drive has exceeded my expectations in every way. First and foremost, the 10TB storage capacity provides ample space for my extensive multimedia collection, critical backups, and countless files. This capacity is a sweet spot for users who need a balance between space and cost-effectiveness. The performance is top-notch, with the 7200 RPM spinning speed ensuring swift data access and transfer speeds. One of the standout features for me is the CMR (Conventional Magnetic Recording) technology. This ensures consistent, reliable performance even under heavy workloads, making it ideal for demanding environments. I've experienced no drop in speed or reliability, even during simultaneous, high-bandwidth access from multiple devices. The 256MB cache is a crucial component, significantly boosting read and write speeds for frequently accessed files. This cache has made a noticeable difference in the fluidity and responsiveness of my NAS, particularly during peak usage times. What truly sets the IronWolf Pro apart is its compatibility with RAID setups. Whether you're running RAID 0 for maximum speed or RAID 1 for redundancy, these drives handle the load with grace. The reliability and consistency under RAID configurations are nothing short of impressive. Seagate's Rescue Services is the cherry on top of an already stellar package. Knowing that my data is backed by Seagate's data recovery service provides peace of mind that's truly priceless. I haven't had to use it yet, but it's reassuring to know it's there. Installation was a breeze, thanks to the SATA 6Gb/s interface, and the drive runs cool and quiet, even during extended usage periods. It's clear that Seagate has put serious thought into both the performance and longevity of this drive. In terms of value, while it's an investment, the IronWolf Pro's durability, reliability, and performance justify the price tag. I consider it a long-term investment in my data security and storage needs. In summary, the Seagate IronWolf Pro 10TB NAS Internal Hard Drive is a testament to Seagate's commitment to quality and performance. It's a rock-solid choice for anyone serious about their NAS system. The combination of high capacity, CMR technology, RAID compatibility, and Rescue Services make this drive a standout performer in its class. Highly recommended!
