## Description

The Green Johanna Hot Composter is one of the premiere insulated composting systems on the planet that works faster than other systems of similar size. By following a tried and true recipe of 2 parts food scraps (cooked or uncooked) and 1 part yard waste you can achieve high levels of internally generated heat found at the center of the pile. Combined with an innovative ventilation system, the high temps ensure that virtually all kitchen scraps are effectively decomposed. Our family friendly Joes can be operated year-round, even in colder climates. An optional winter insulation jacket, if installed, will further enhance breakdown. Unlike the vast majority of compost bins which do not have a bottom, the Green Johanna has a base plate to help keep out unwanted critters, while the 4.5 mm vent slits simultaneously allow for entry of beneficial macro-organisms, oxygen and microbes - all of which assist with rapid breakdown of organics. Innovative twist lock lid design allow ample oxygen to enter through the patented ventilation system, reducing unpleasant odors and keeping the beneficials well oxygenated. Easy to mix using the included and durably-designed, black poly-resin pile turner via the oversized top opening. Conical shape helps with passive air flow and natural settling of contents. Assembly Time: approx. 30-45 minutes (need Philips screwdriver). Designed & developed in Sweden and manufactured in the United Kingdom from recycled, post-consumer waste poly-resins with added UV stabilizers. The optional Winter Insulation Jacket is highly recommended for all regions that experience extra cold winters. When the temperatures start to fall below 40 degrees F in the Autumn, feel free to install the jackets to help retain internally generated heat due to microbial engine. To reduce the possibility of over-cooking the compost, remove Winter Jacket when temperatures are consistently above 50 degrees F. in the Spring. Jacket has been customized to exclusively fit our Joes and is crafted from polyethylene. 11.5 CF or 87 gallons (330 liters) Item Weight is approx. 25 lbs.

We are long-time composters and this is definitely the best compost bin we have ever had. Pretty easy to assemble, strong & sturdy, no critters have been able to invade it in our Northwoods location. All the organic matter broke down beautifully and rapidly. Miraculously, there was always that perfect balance of moisture -- never too dry or too soggy. The contents always smelled sweet. In our view, it's worth the cost.

We have had a Johanna for over eight years now. It has faded a bit on the outside, but still decomposes all our food scraps (we don't put in meat or bones) and produces black soil for the garden. More solid and effective than several we had earlier; those simply did not hold up over time. Just ordered one for a friend.
