Only the bottom 1 inch to extend the life. If accidentally dropped in water and quickly removed likely ok. I try to only put in the probe on all my meters. **Q: Where can we buy replacement tips/probes?** A: Don't know and wouldn't buy anymore of their products. My ph pen never worked and neither did a heating pad a had gotten. Took it as a lesson, didn't even want the replacement. Went with blue lab, pricey but worth it **Q: How to calibrate temperature? My unit is reading ~8F too low** A: I tried two and both had terrible temperature accuracy. I bought a cheap $19 Taylor Precision digit thermometer which gave superior accuracy. **Q: Does this do Fahrenheit?** A: Garbage! Go with blue lab. And I didn't know what I needed for solution til after I got it and read directions. I had got what I thought it would be and I only got 1 out of the 3 you need correct. So had to buy more solution because it only comes with the ph calibration kit. Then the ph is off slightly and jumps around alot but if you let your water set for a few hours it seems to be more stable so maybe it is just that sensitive. But all in all it does work pretty well. And you can't beat it for the price.
