I often play a more Mark Knopfler-style picking than traditional thumb picking (or flat picking), and I do have to sand/file them down to a slightly more rounded pick shape, but that takes literally 5 mins. Once I've done that, they work really, really well for me. I couldn't feel it, but only knew, when I would start missing the strings, because I was playing with the side of the pick rather than the point. I can hold and use these picks like a standard flatpick, and they don't turn because of the thumb loop.
