Review: Low Key, one of the greatest things they've ever made. - It's amazing that you can buy a knife made with this much of this wonder steel for this little, finished this well. Imagine having a long sharp blade, that will stay sharp essentially forever, unless you are cutting other metal, or a ridiculous amount of something. The blade geometry on this is so absolutely perfect to support a thicker than usual blade with two or three times the strength of a typical knife blade because of the steel used, and the needfully thick profile. It feels like they went for maximum comfortable weight, that would still support the "Tanto Doctrine" for blade geometry. Which, to my knowledge, to date, hasn't been really beaten by anybody when factoring blade strength versus cutting ability. Tanto wins. And this is a big one of those. it means having a stupidly big blade, that's very easy to wield, while being stronger than it has any need to be. That's a great thing to have in an inexpensive knife steel like AUS-8. It's a freaking miracle to have in a godsteel like CPM 3V. In it's size, it's like the benefit of having a modern wakizashi or katana in T10 tool steel. Ridiculously strong yet flexible blade that can take a hit, but will still stay sharp forever. The downside? sharpening is not fun. That said you don't have to do it often. My one big trip using this amazing blade to clear brush, it was still almost razor sharp after weeks of solid use. I also used it to chop down a smallish tree, and size logs for a fire. Still sharp. I only had to touch it up after a solid two weeks of abuse. In my mind, it already paid for itself. It would still slice paper, but hang up at rough sections. True to CPM 3V, I had no roll-overs. Especially with Tanto blade geometry. Just dull sections that needed touched up. Bringing the entire blade back to razor sharp took 5 minutes on a machine with a super fine 1200 grit diamond wheel and water at 120rpm, followed by some stropping with a 20 dollar wal-mart leather belt. With your expert arkansas stone work, it would probably have taken twenty minutes to get a slightly better result than I did. This is a big, expensive piece of steel. If you need something like this, it's worth it. I needed a big durable blade. This fits that bill. Honestly it's gross overkill, but the good kind. The kind that could be a weapon in a pinch if needed, and an insanely deadly one. I don't know why sometimes it's only Cold Steel filling a niche in the market, but I'm glad the person doing it cares about their reputation enough to make something truly special. This is an excellent knife. Thanks Cold Steel. Your love of this art shows in this design. You should consider making wakizashi sized blades in CPM 3V. In this size you could literally plug the numbers into a computer for the tanto configuration, and with this steel, do half geometry. And carry it through. Even halving the angles on the blade. And the steel would handle it fine, and you'd only lose 25 percent of the strength of the design, but make a usable 20" blade. You could harden to rockwell 63-64 so it has a bit more springiness. The enduser would still garner most of the benefits of the edge retention of CPM 3V in a 20" blade. I wouldn't even offer a rounded edge. I'd market on the long tanto configuration, carried to Wakizashi size for the first time.
Review: I'm truly amazed at how much useful and its ergonomics for all areas its easy to cross carry !! - Good fit and finish I'm passionate about the Samaria and there blade style but serious outdoors person it is a great chopper for a medium kiku! For 180 down Don't regret I weighted a year and so glad I tried it for trout blowfish nothing else but a 10 in plus light blade will slice prickers and fall small trees Ron hood made the hoodlums but he passed so I no longer risk breaking the blade its a piece of art collectible and this does so well for a substitute!! ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this made in Japan? Thanks.**
A: Cold Steel is no longer Made in Japan. They are Made in Taiwan. (July, 2021)

**Q: Does the 3v steel scratch easily on the tango xii?**
A: The Night Fall tanto has the DLC which is fairly resilient and scratch resistant under regular use. But any wood chopping and batoning will quickly begin to wear off the coating.

**Q: Is this the regular master tanto or is it the painted master tanto?**
A: The master tanto has a 6" long blade. This is the magnum tanto series with the coating.

**Q: Is this item coated or polished**
A: Coated black, even though the picture (at the time at least) showed a polished version.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tai Pan in CPM 3V steel
*by A***U on June 29, 2023*

This Cold Steel dagger, Tai Pan, is the best fighting knife. Most daggers are in a very long and thin triangular shape with a needle thin tip and not too sharp edges. Yes, they are good at stabbing but that is it, they are not good at slicing. The Tai Pan has a wider profile and razor sharp double cutting edge. You can stab and slice with Tai Pan. Since a dagger is mostly used for stabbing so you want a strong and tough tip and that is where CPM 3V steel is great. The 7.5" blade is about perfect size for good balance and fast in the hand.
