I was going to use it to hold up the charging cord for my electric vehicle. I thought I needed something that would have a ratchet type mechanism, but this worked very well & as it turns out there is a easy to turn knob, which allows you to change the tension for the cable retraction. You actually “tune” the tension so to speak so that it’s enough to hold the object at any height based on its weight. It works very well.
