What is the difference between Acid Buffer™ and Acid Regulator™ A: The difference is that Acid Buffer™ is a straight acid source and Acid Regulator™ is a phosphate based buffering system. Acid Regulator™ has a greater ability to maintain a pH as were a straight acid source can have a slight pH drift. When you are trying to avoid any additional phosphates I would go with the Acid Buffer™ and Alkaline Buffer® products but if that is not an issue, then the Acid Regulator™ will maintain a more constant pH. Your KH is what helps keep your PH from lowering, so in order to lower your PH you will need to lower your KH first. This acid buffer is mostly used in tanks with plants. That way they can remove the excess C02 from the water. Word of caution: if you don’t have plants, and use too much then you'll have a lot of CO2 which will cause a quick change in PH and will more than likely kill off any fish. An easier but slower way to lower your KH is by getting distilled water, using a reverse osmosis system or a deionization filter and doing water changes that way. It will take more time but works well as there will be no GH or KH in that water which means lower PH.
