Review: > GREAT STUFF - WHAT YOU GET > There are several listing on desertcart for "Hormel Bacon Bits" or "Hormel Crumbled Bacon", sometimes accompanied with the adjectives or descriptive phrases "Real", "Premium", "with Picnic Ham, "30% less fat", or "50% less fat"; at prices between $11 and over $42 per 20oz bag. Most of the descriptions and photos are of older packaging. In fact, there are no "varieties". There is only one product, "HORMEL REAL CRUMBLED BACON";"50% LESS FAT" You'd think that for $42 you are getting a better product (or a larger package) than for $11, but in fact, it is exactly the same product and size. Be careful not to order the 4.3 oz packages by accident. > This is NOT "crumbled bacon", nor imitation bacon-flavored "bits". Think "chipped dry smoked ham". This stuff is obviously the "sawdust", and small left-over pieces, from slicing quality smoked ham for pre-packaged lunchmeat, etc. The size of the chips varies greatly from package to package. Some packages are mostly big chips, up to 1/2 inch. **Q: Can I freeze the Hormel Real Crumbled Bacon?**
A: Yes!! I often freeze mine for up to 6 months or so. Have noticed no ill effects when thawed out.

**Q: Is it shelf stable after opening?**
A: I refrigerated my bag after opening, used it up within a month, and had no problems.

**Q: Can't find at Sams or any other retail grocery store - which seller on Amazon has fresh, not out of date product?**
A: Smart  & Final carries the 20 oz bags and Target sells the 4 oz bags as of 10/15/2020.  I warn you that the product has changed greatly and is mostly hard fat chunks instead of bacon "meat". It used to be a fabulous product, but no more.

**Q: How many servings are in this bag?**
A: Hey there bacon lover.... Many Many servings, at 20 oz, it is over a pound. First heard about this large size from my daughter who sets up many functions. The small packets are very expensive. I use it on baked potatoes, with eggs, in salads, just on toast sometimes.  Have used over 4 bags since finding the large size, not every one sells this large one.. a few large pieces, I just trim smaller. You won't be dissapointed.  Enjoy......     Grandpa Ernest

A pound of bacon costs $5 and makes a huge mess after you work up to getting it out of the freezer for one or two slices. Or you cook more because the pan holds it and then eat it all! This costs $14 and is equivalent to 5 pounds. I sprinkle it in/on salads, sandwiches, and omelettes, and use it to flavor veggies, soups, and spaghetti sauce. Lasts forever and is less greasy but tastes like BACON, because it is! :-)
