During the transfer process, if there is any distraction, it will be hard for the water to flow again. Connect one end of the tubing to the inside of the pump. Please make sure during the entire process, the tube should remain standing vertically at 90 degrees. Then, with the racking cane pulled up to the top of the auto-siphon, insert the siphon into your container. Setup your intake vessel at a lower level than the container you are transferring the liquid from. The open end of the tubing should not be blocked by anything. Also, the liquid source should be full. The liquid level should be as high as the tubing. The liquid should automatically begin filling up in the body of the siphon. Then, push down the racking all way to push the liquid up the racking cane. This may take 2 or 3 more full pumps to get enough volume to begin filling the tubing and get the siphon started. Once you get the air out of the line, the liquid will begin flowing on its own. Do not hesitate between pumps to maintain the flow and it will begin flowing naturally on it's own once you get all the air out of line. If you wish to pause the flow to switch between the bottles, make use of the shutoff valve, the blue clamp that is connected along the length of the tubing. After each use, the siphon pump and tubing easily break down for washing. I was surprised at how small it was. It is not long enough to fit into a 5-gallon glass carboy. I tried to use it anyway and attached the hose. The hose is not the right diameter because it cracked when I attached it. I did manage to get it attached using the other end. I tried to get the siphon working by pumping it as they recommend in the instructions but could not get it to successfully begin the siphoning process. The siphon part doesn't appear to be airtight enough, either. Admittedly, this racking cane siphon method is extremely wonky to operate in some ways and yet so much more efficient in other ways. If I had someone helping me, it'd be a breeze.The end cap kept out all of the lees in my brew. That was a huge plus when racking off a brew!The pitfall to the protective cap at the end is that it doesn't like to come off. In fact, I had to get pliars to force mine off.The hose itself is far too small in diameter.
