About the soundtrack, too. Akira Yamaoka didn't say, "Hey, well, it's just this silly PSP game. I'll strum out some licks on the guitar, synth in a few creepy sounds, get Miss McGlynn in here, and be done in an evening!" No, he didn't do that. And if he did he hid it very well.It's hard to review a soundtrack like this because most tracks are ambient noise with a light pulse and some kind of emotional undertone. But in that regard, this one is just as good as the SH2 and 3 soundtracks. Can't say anything about that of the original Silent Hill, The Room, or Homecomming.What stands out on this CD is Mary Elizabeth McGlynn's performances on Shot Down in Flames, O.R.T., Blow Back, and Hole in the Sky. (Was there another? I think it's just those four.) She sounds amazing in all of them and her voice accompanies the Silent Hill air so well. I prefer the vocal songs here over those in the Silent Hill 3 soundtrack, and she did well there.That being said, I think 2 has the best instrumental songs, 3 has the best ambient ones, and 0 has the best lyrical. So would I call this the best Silent Hill soundtrack? No. But I would call it great, not just good. From giving you the chills to building something that you know just from its light auido pulse, SH really delivers. I remember when promise (reprise) became something of a calling card for the series, and when SH3 added in a voice to the music.It has all been building from there.In this addition to the SH saga, there is quite a bit that goes perfectly here. You have the great arrangement of sounds, the perfect alignment of good and questionable, and you have reminders of what terror sounds like. Along with that are Mary Elizabeth McGlynn's performances of Shot Down in Flames, O.R.T., Blow Back, and Hole in the Sky. These are quite good and they come through in both the game and the soundtrack, making the player feel right at home. When I heard O.R.T. in the game I wanted it then. and was happy to have it. This happened other times and, happily, it came through and helped me on those occasions.If you are a fan of SH2, 3, Shattered, you will love this. It builds like a story would, taking you into the world that you have played out. Even fans of sampling and of musical oddity would like these, as well as those who simply find the contrast of beauty and of horror so lovely.
