The author goes into detail as to how godly people are seduced by the devil. He works to catch people off guard by luring them with unexpected, well disguised traps. The targets are people who are wholeheartedly devoted to Christ. They had warning signs while they were still walking faithful to God but rationalized it away. The enemy gets to our hearts through hidden spots of vulnerability in our minds. Another excellent point was that God allows seduction in the life of a believer with wholehearted devotion because something needs sifting. The greatest thing that helps us abstain from evil is to be happy in our faith, otherwise other sources of joy become tools for seduction.Finally the last point I want to highlight is the disastrous threesome, impulsiveness, impatience and poor discernment. We are told to prove all things which takes time, but if we can’t wait we could end up moving on something that looks good but in actuality is not good. I had 2 reasons for my skepticism... one, I wasn't totally sure that I believed in Satan. Sure, I believe in evil and I believe the Bible, but I was never sure than Satan wasn't a metaphorical being or symbol for evil. Second, I was pretty confident that I love God, and have a solid relationship with Christ and the Holy Spirit, and would spot seduction a mile away.So, week 1 intro came along. I took my book along to my group study and we watched the dvd, and after the intro, there were a lot of wide eyes. You see, I think we all thought we'd simply be talking about the things that could happen to us in the future, maybe things that other people did, and we'd happily watch for them and avoid them. We should have known better! This was going to get deep.That week, I hit a personal issue. I was being bombarded by thoughts, "You really don't need to do this course." "There's nothing you'll learn from this." "You really don't have time!"Well, I know enough to know that this was NOT the Holy Spirit telling me to stay away from a Bible study! If anyone was putting doubt in my mind, it had to be the enemy - or at least my own fears - so that was enough to tell me I had to do it.Many people in my group experienced similar resistance - not finding time to do the daily study, or skipping a week here and there. This one is the best one I've read on the subject! Beth talks about how easy it is for christians to get pulled into sin and backslide unless you have the full armour of God/Jesus! She is so right on!! It can happen but the good news is you can fight it by staying in the faith and not getting caught off guard. Beth gives wonderful examples how to avoid pitfalls and how evil can creep back into christians lives. The more faithful you are the more you will be attacked.Some religious friends came to my aid with prayers, rosaries, and enlightment which I'm truly grateful! God sends people into your life for a reason. God has a plan for you. This book will help you along lifes pathway and to stay on that spiritual path.Thank you Beth for this wonderful book!
