Review: A decent bit of kit - I bought this for work. It serves well and i think it would be good for a wide range of lights so long as they have a head swell so that they have something to be pulled in and out by and so that they dont easily get pushed or fall through the case. Its open bottom, which has benefits and disadvantages, but thats the point of this holster i think. I bought it for my aa mini maglite to use on my belt at work. If this is the type of gear that you like for edc, this would work well for you too. I manged to stuff my old 3 d cell maglite into it and it did hold it, though thats a heavy large light, and i dont think its ideal for something that big. It seemed to have over stretched the elastic a tiny bit as my mini mag fits a little looser now, but there have been no problems with it retaining the light at all during my rather physically active use at work. It can be used equally well from either end, though it deffinitely has a balance preference due to the placement of the belt clip off center. Just an observation not a complaint. It will work in nearly any position but it just like some more than others. Its light and durable feeling. The belt clip is the thing i actually like most and least about this. That may be just a matter of getting used to it but let me explain. Its a very high retention belt clip bit can be removed without opening the belt. It has a retention swell in the outer side of the clip and on the inner ( part that goes beind the belt) side, it has a retention hook. That hook is about 75% of a circle and nearly meets the edge of the swell on the other side. You could get picked up and shook upside down vigorously and the light might fall out of the holster, but that holster isnt comming off your belt unless its torn off. You have to really WANT to get it off your belt, and its a bit of a wrestle the first few times you try. If you have some dexterity issues, you might as well consider this a closed belt loop design because you probably wont be able get this off without opening your belt and sliding it off. It would be possible to remove some of the hook part to make it easier though you might be careful in how you do that. The rotating aspect to the clip is very nice as it allows for a range of carry positions and its fairly stiff in its indexed positions. It has seven indexes 12, 130, 430, 6, 730, 9, and 1030 relative to the clockface. The elastic seems to be kinda the weak point if there is one. Im going start taking the light out of it at the end of the day and letting it rest to see if that help it feel stronger when i put the light back in. Deffinitely worth the money spent. Useful and durable, which is what i have come to expect from Nite Ize. I own several of their products and have never been dissatisfied with one. Is it really 1x1x1?** A: The actual size of the holster is : The "back" part that holds the clip is 6"long. The part the wraps around the flash light is 2-1/8". The width of the back is 2". The part that secures the flashlight is also 2" but expands to the size of your light. This is not made for "D" size flashlights. I think more for tactical types. Holds my Surefire Z2 fine. Hope this helps. Oh, the clip will fit a 1-1/2 web belt easily. **Q: Does this clip on to pants or shorts without a belt well?** A: I have worn this without a belt on and ot works very well for me. I have only worn it while wearing denim or khaki pants and shorts though, which have a defined waistband on the inside as well, and as such make a very good holding point for the holster.I would say that if you intent to wear this without a belt you won't be dissapointed. **Q: is this small enough to carry a AA maglite firmly?** A: But don't use it with the MagLite XL50 or XL200. You need a light with a flared top, or the light will slip out through the bottom at some point during the day. I am a Security Officer and decided to order this for my 3-D Cell Maglite regardless of what I saw about it not fitting. I received it yesterday, so it is new. I have to say, it is nice to walk around and not have the flashlight banging up against your leg all the time. This holster holds the flashlight securely. It is definitely tight, and you need two hands to get it out of the holder. I already noticed that it is loosening up slightly each time I check it for fit. When I put this light in the holster, I can not imagine it ever falling through the holder. The top of the flashlight is so much bigger around than the battery compartment. The swivel is somewhat flimsy feeling, but it does lock in place. PROS: Fits Large Flashlights (3-D Cell Maglite) Holds light securely to belt Is not stretching too much for extreme wear CONS: Definitely tight for this large flashlight Needs two hands to draw/reholster flashlight Swivel feels kind of flimsy, but does definitely lock at all the different angles I could not have asked for a better holster. WAY BETTER THAN THE FLASHLIGHT RING I WAS USING. If something happens to it soon, I will update the review.
