If you like Mice & Mystics, you’ll love it ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good game, bad rulebook. *by O***N on January 13, 2022* This game has pros and cons. The story so far, after 5 or so completed missions is interesting and we are finally getting a hang of the rules. The gameplay if fun once you know what you are doing. Compared to other similar games, setup is actually quite easy and quick. Way faster than something like Gloomhaven or Imperial Assault to take the box out and actually start playing a mission thanks to the storybook maps and decently well organized box. We've been playing with 2 players, each controlling 2 characters--I think it is probably best either this way, or with 3 players each controlling 1. 4 players seems like it might result in a lot of down-time between turns and lead to too much "group input" on turns. The box is well organized to start. Comes with deck boxes for each character and key other decks. Included plastic baggies for tokens and other card decks. Might be able to do better storing the cards bare with separators and putting some of the tokens in small lidded containers rather than bags, but including bags for everything is a nice touch. But the rulebook. Ooof. Honestly, the game itself doesn't feel that complicated once you learn it, but the rulebook just does a very poor job of introducing the rules and is simultaneously hard to use as a reference. Looks like they tried to make it approachable by shortening/condensing the rulebook, but it could definitely use a few more pages with an FAQ and rule index. As it stands, the rules technically answer almost all questions, but those answers are hard to find (e.g. there are rules that are mentioned only in the "first time setup" section of the book, even though they apply to all missions). We printed out an "improved" rulebook from boardgame geek as well as a handy turn/action cheat-sheet. We also had to resort to googling the proper way to handle certain situations--inevitably the rules ARE there in the book, but we just weren't looking in the right place. Our most recent mission, I think we were finally able to get through without google or having to refer to anything beyond the cheat-sheet. Also, as others have mentioned, it arrived with several broken figures--both figures with limbs/weapons broken off, and figures where the actual base is broken off. Admittedly, I have not reached out the the manufacturer to see if they can fix this, but it suggests that either the figures are of low quality, or they are not packed in a way that can handle shipping.
