I have spent the weekend detecting a beach it's found pound coins,penny's, 10 pence a t spoon a bullet and loads of ring pulls bottle caps etc. The rechargeable battery is good I did 8 hours and it only went down 2 bars so there's no worries of it running out in a day. It has a pinpoint function built in that works well. I would recommend getting a pinpointer aswell it makes finding the targets in the ground alot easier to find. Overall I would say the simplex is value for money and excellent for beginners. Review: Great machine sent quickly - I don't need to add any more superlatives about the Simplex, its a great machine for the price. I would like to say though, that the company that sent the detector were brilliant. I ordered the machine on the Friday afternoon, and it was dispatched from Germany the following day. It was with me by the Thursday of the following week. 6 days from Germany to my door. It’s way cheaper to buy it as a bundle. Buy it with headphones or you will regret it soon as I did. **Q: Can you use with any wireless headphones?** A: I read somewhere that most makes of wireless headphones will work with the Makro simplex, i would hardly think they would limit it to their own brand, **Q: I never received a charger is this normal ?** A: Yes it is normal. Any usb charger will work 2 amps or over. Or a laptop etc will charge it. **Q: is the simplex ok with salt water.** A: It can be used on the beach, but it is only a single frequency, so you will get some 'noise' from salt water. Reducing the sensitivity can help with this, the side effect being loss of depth. If you specifically need salt water performance, I would recommend a multi-frequency detector. The Minelab Vanquish Series is a similar price range to the Simplex+, but has excellent beach performance. The downside being, only the coil is waterproof, so it can only be used in shallow surf, it can't be fully submerged.
