The adjustable blade tension seems like it could be a useful feature. They arrived set to medium tension and that created enough drag that they were slightly difficult to open and close. I set them on the loosest tension and they cut grasses and small branches with ease. As they begin to wear or when I need to cut more stubborn plants, the adjustable tension might be very useful. The big surprise to me is how much I like the extendable handles. When I made the purchase, I imagined that would allow me to reach higher things like tree branches. This is true but it only adds about a foot and you really need loppers for any significant tree work. What I love is that they reach down and I can do much less stooping and bending. They are noticeably heavier than other shears I've owned. I hope this means they are well made and will last a long time.
