Installation was quick and easy for me as I pretty much have no clue what I am doing but I am learning as I go. I really got a kick out of the chain gliding onto the largest chain wheel as I clicked 1 through 3 and 3 through 1 over and over. The old Shimano shifter had pretty much fallen apart. Maybe it could have been salvaged, I dunno. This was an easy solution to overcome some procrastination and get the bike working. On to tuning...and new handlebar grips. You use your thumb to shift with the front lever and your index finger for the rear lever, which operates between the handlebar and brake lever.
