THESE CRIMPERS DO NOT WORK ON ALUMINUM AND COPPER FERRULES FOR LOOPS AND SPLICES. Like "steel cable" and "wire rope" there's some confusion here. Swaging is the general term for squeezing together the ferrules to make loops and splices. (I didn't know this and thought I'd find out if for 1/16" wire rope I might not need the extra tool. Hopefully I'll save somebody this step.) It also makes very quick and clean cuts of small diameter rope, string, and bungee cords. I've bootlegged wire rope cuts a dozen different ways--nothing is as clean as this tool. For piano wire 1/16" it's a little cleaner than using a bolt cutter, the cut edges are not square--more similar to bolt cutter marks, pinched with a ridge in the middle. For a lot of piano wire cutting the much smaller size of this tool is a plus. Now off to find a swaging tool.....(And there are three kinds of swaging tools, one type for copper pipe, another for what we're talking about here....My head's spinnning.) We use Felco C7 that the company pays for. I bought these to give them a try and have been very impressed by them. They cut 5/32" cable very well and the edge seems to hold up well. The locking mechanism has not accidentally come open in my pocket yet. The crimpers work well on electrical butt splices.
