It is a really good mandolin and not too big in size. **Q: Does it come with protection or safety guard for when not in use and safely keeping in drawers?** A: The food grip attaches to the slicer and acts as a guard there is also a padlock setting on the slicer which keeps the blade flush with the body of the mandolin. I have never had a problem with it, I would recommend it as one of my favourites. **Q: Do you have to have strong hands/wrists to shred hard cabbage?** A: No ... the blades are very sharp so little effort is needed for grating things like hard cabbage or carrots. But you do have to take care to use the guard provided. **Q: Does it slice cabbage for coleslaw please?** A: This is a great mandolin and it will shred cabbage but width of blade is 10cm so pieces cannot be too big. Very easy to swap between thicknesses. Only slight design issue is it feels a bit awkward when you use the hand guard and reach the end of the vegetable, it doesn't quite sit well against the board for the last slice or two.
