## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are all Dietz lanterns made in China?**
A: Yes, Dietz lantern production moved to Hong Kong in 1956, then to China in 1988 to cut manufacturing costs. While the "tooling" and designs are the same quality has suffered. I have two lanterns that were made in Syracuse, NY in the early 1900's and they are very solid. I also have a couple newer ones that were made in China and the first thing I noticed was the bails will bend very easily. Once they're bent, you can't really get them looking right again.

**Q: Can you carry it full of fuel? Or will it leak?**
A: They are designed to hold fuel and not leak while in place. This is a 100+ year old design that plain works. If you overfill it, it will spill out between the burner assembly and body or out of the cap if not tight. Common sense and safety is required to operate these. I travel with mine for night fishing and use it for the half mile walk into the woods to my local lake and then for another 3-4 hours to fish and back to the car. Been doing that for years. I use a small glass Pyrex measuring glass in OZ and funnel to fill it precisely with no spillage.

**Q: Actual rust, or painted to look like rust?**
A: They mean the last style and it looks to me like its actually rusted not painted to look that way but if they used glue and threw some fake rust colored particulates it might not be real rust. I wouldn't buy that one because I dont like the look

**Q: Can you put in an electric candle?**
A: I doubt it would be feaseable.
Probably could be done if you really want to but if you want an electric light that looks like a lantern, there are those available

It's a good quality lantern. I waited to write a review because sometimes these metal oil lamps develop leaks at the seams. This one hasn't. Exactly as advertised.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cute and functional, but kind of cheap

We just installed a brick paver patio and wanted to add a little decor and night lighting to the bar height tables out there. Since this is an 1890 farmstead, I was looking for period styling. So many of the lanterns out there that look like this are only for decoration. On a property like this, if it's not useful, we don't buy it. I ordered two, and I can't say they are the sturdiest thing I've ever seen. It's disappointing that they are now made in China, and are quite cheap compared to the originals. One of the lanterns functions basically as it should, the other gets stuck on the way down (when lighting or extinguishing the flame). With a little help, it drops into place. I'm sure it's something my husband can straighten out, so I didn't bother sending that one back. I've seen other reviews that complained of the same problem. But if you're looking for a cute lantern, that can be used for lighting indoors or out, this is a decent choice.
