Review: Finally. Something to restore my faith. - As I slip deeper in to my 30's, current music seems to get more formulaic, less interesting, and altogether "done before" and done better. And then, there's Purity Ring. I'm not even comfortable assigning a genre to Purity Ring, much less a useful description of their sound. Maybe like Best Coast and Tangerine Dream sharing the same acid trip? Sure, why not? Like Pere Ubu and The Sundays were huffing ether at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2001? Yeah, that's a little closer, maybe... Like Bjork being Bjork, while Moby screws around after reading lots of Kafka? Getting warmer! Lofticries is a simply brilliant track that will probably tip you towards love or hate. In either case, check out Fineshrine after, and I defy you to tell me that it doesn't sound as appropriate blasting out of some random kid's subwoofers on an evening cruise as easily as it makes for a shoegazing anthem. I don't say this lightly: I'm concerned about what Purity Ring will follow this up with, because Shrines is *that* good. They can go ahead and break my heart like The Postal Service did a decade ago, and just not release anything after this -- and while I'll be sad, I won't lose sight of the fact that I got to hear an album this perfect.
Review: Electric Gold - Since it's release, a few friends have been trying to get me onto this band. I just couldn't find the time or care to take the plunge, plus the cover art doesn't really do much for me at all. It took the random chance of Pandora to open my ears. The first track I heard was Fineshrine, the sounds, the melody and surprisingly, the lyrics all took me to a place of musical fantasy and wonder. The first 5 tracks are a continuous dream sequence; filled with mystery, bright reverberations and fairy-like vocals. I rarely buy music these days but this was money well spent!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautifully eerie, or Eerily beautiful... either way it is great.

Ever since the debut song "Ungirthed" came out I knew the full length would be good, but I had no idea how diverse and great this album is. The instrumentals from Corin Roddick, a member of the band Born Gold, pairs nicely, almost juxaposed to Megan James' vocals, which are as macabre as they are comforting. I'll keep it simple, If you like the sounds of Crystal Castles, Flying Lotus, Grimes, The Weeknd, Joy Division, The Cure, James Blake, Fever Ray (the list can go on, but you probably get the idea) then buy this album immediately. while you are at it check out 4AD records, as they have one of, if not THE best new artsist line-ups. "Shrines" or Grime's "Visions" is the best album of 2012.
