It's a downward squeezer like the old days when I was in elementary school (although those were metal instead of plastic). Only time will tell if this will last as it has plastic gears, etc. in the wringer. The common "side squeeze" wringers are all junk, even name brand ones like Rubbermaid. Those do not squeeze out enough water and on my Rubbermaid, the squeezer broke because I was applying so much pressure to try to get the water out of the mop. I ended up drilling out the rivets to the mount and having to remount it, but it still was poor in getting the water squeezed out. This tried and true down press style wringer is the best so my floors will dry in 10 minutes or less compared to over 30 minutes with the side squeezer due to the amount of water that remains in the mop after squeezing. I hope the plastic construction of the wringer is durable and will last as I love the performance of it. Review: Sturdy mop bucket! - I really like this mop bucket. It is very well made.
