It is made of imitation leather but looks great and you would really have to study it to determine it wasn't leather. It assembled in a few minutes in a completely obvious way, basically just bolting the legs on. Its sturdy and you could definitely sit on it without any fear. A nice additional feature -- it has a small amount of storage space inside it. It costs about $60 which is very reasonable for an item of this quality of design, contruction and function delivered to my door. I can't imagine how it could be any less. Be aware of its diminuative size.
