Made of USA genuine leather, the M1b is engineered to control the resonance without sacrificing the brightness of the drum. One M1b has 4 different dampening settings: very light, light, medium and off. Remember the M1b is a great fit for toms too (floor toms should use our M80 model). It also presents some weight on the head (more than tape, plastic etc) which helps shorten the lower frequency hum. You can dampen in a snap or disengage even faster with the on/off magnet feature. The magnets that are supposed to hold it in place on the hoops are very weak. I lost the thing for a while during teardown, it just didn't stay in place. In use, I didn't really notice any effect at all. (as pictured).** A: I can't answer why that happened. What I will say is that I prefer the M80 over the smaller damping system. The M1 has been updated using thicker leather. However, this creates a problem in that the leather won't fold up because a) it's too thick and b) the magnets are not powerful enough. I love the M80 because it does everything it is supposed to do and gives you plenty of flexibility. Be happy. I think you actually made out better in the long run. **Q: Does it work with mesh head to help double trigger issue?** A: Hi, good question. I have not heard if it does or doesn't. Mesh heads seem to be slower moving than a typical Mylar head. If you were going to try it, you might have the best luck with our bigger version called the M80 to add more weight and stop the resonance. I would look into the threshold of the trigger sensitivity 1st however.
