I didn't buy it because I wanted to learn how to wire an entire house. I understand the basic concepts. I have actually wired a small basement, which was a fairly easy project. I didn't get it for that either. There were some things that I couldn't remember about wiring and other t hi vs I wanted to know and this book was perfect for that. It is great for the beginner and a novice like me. Maybe not so much for the advanced folks. You could probably use this book to help you know how to wire your own home--I believe it has enough information for that. Again, I needed it for a reference and reminders about how to do certain things and it was perfect for me. I've purchased several DIY wiring books and this one is clearly the best. Specifically I was looking to uncover the mysteries of how to wire a room for lighting and the switches that control that lighting. I wanted the book to have pictures that would show which wires are for what...and why. I wanted to know how three-way switches do their magic (it's the traveler wire), and I wanted to know tricks of the trade about how to put a switch in the middle of a "run" of lighting wires or at the end, and how would I properly tie into existing circuits.This book does all those things, and it has color diagrams and plain talk instructions to help the novice learn what, why, and where. As I said at the start, it's the best I've found...and I'd been looking for awhile. There are some topics I would like it to have gone into more details about, and more NEC references would be helpful. There is another book for advanced wiring I plan to purchase, but for the home electrician I highly recommend this. It's not designed for the scope of project I'm working on, but my county electrical inspector has been extremely helpful for the other details.
