This book is ranked number 255 in Romance Fiction Writing Reference on Amazon. Its publication date was September 17, 2008. It is 320 pages in length. Here are the top reasons given in the book to write a romance story. You believe in the happily ever after. The romance novel is your favorite kind of story as a reader of fiction. If you are unknown as an author, the romance genre is often the easiest first sale. I’m still in the story-developing stage of my romance novel, so I’m taking the word of already published people on this. It has also been said that romance readers often are loyal enough to follow an author of romance to a new genre. As a reader, I can attest to that. There are more romance stories published than in other genres, as a simple walkthrough most supermarkets will demonstrate.Chapter One discusses why romance should be written, Chapter Two goes into detail about the romance genre of fiction. Chapter Three is an in-depth discussion of the romance story’s basic structure which I have talked about in some of my videos on writing. In chapter four, the authors talk about the romance category, the advantages, and disadvantages, along with the potential earnings. Chapters 5 through seven discuss the mechanics of writing romance. In chapter eight, she discusses the plotline of the romance novel. Chapter nine is all about the opening; the importance of getting the first five pages right. Very helpful and I give it four and a half stars. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ From a non-fiction writer *by M***N on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 9, 2013* My main focus is on writing/publishing non-fiction (self-improvement) and I have 3 books up on Amazon as well as 4 more in the works at various stages of completion.Lately, I have had this urge to branch out into fiction (I read a lot of fiction). Research showed romance novels are selling somewhere at 50% of the gross fiction sales. I originally found this book in the local library. I liked it enough to buy it through Amazon (as a used book but it came to me in "new" condition).The author has a lot of good information for the beginning fiction writer. One thing I liked is the author does not just lay down a list of rules to follow ('tho, of course they are there) but she goes on to explain the purpose of each "rule", different variations of the rule (one size does not fit all), and when to bend the "rules".The information is parceled out in easy to read and understandable sections. I find my self jumping around to various sections as picks my interest, so, I guess I am a little bit of a crow picking up a piece of good stuff here and there. But, sometimes I do read the entirety of a chapter or two in one setting.This books works for me as a general view of an area of writing as well as a reference I can refer back to if something I had read before is a little bit hazy but is needed at the moment.I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to get into romance novel writing. if you are just starting out as a writer, I would suggest not starting with this book until you have learned some basic elements of writing and are ready to go forth into a specialty area.Oh, an after thought. If you are new to writing romance novels, do not make this your only reference. Read some other books on the subject to get a larger vault of information with some differences in techniques so you have a large amount of data to formulate your own style.The above is not any kind of degrading of the book but just a note from one author to another to not put all your eggs in one basket! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ complete guide to writing fiction, but a bad grammar lesson error *by J***L on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 27, 2019* The book is long and thick and has information on everything about writing fiction (grammar, point of view, getting an agent etc)--the romance is just part of it. In the grammar section, I was shocked to discover that the authors do not know what passive voice is. They write of "an action verb such as 'listened'--instead of a passive verb form such as 'was listening'...."Was listening IS active --active progressive, as in ongoing action while another action takes place ("He was listening to the radio when the tornado struck.") In passive voice, the subject of the sentence does NOT do the action, as in "The ball was hit by the boy."
